How do you know how you're really doing in following Jesus?
How do you know how you're really doing in following Jesus? Are there areas that might blindside you when you stand before Him—like, “Was I doing enough to help the poor? Did I actually share the Gospel?” You’ve only got so much energy… so how do you know if you’re being faithful?
1. Jesus looks at the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7; Mark 12:41–44) — He’s not measuring your life by numbers or results. He’s asking, “Are you doing what you can with the right heart?” Remember the widow who gave two coins? Jesus celebrated her, not for how much she gave, but because she gave all she had.
2. Faithfulness looks different for everyone. (Romans 12:3–8; 1 Peter 4:10) — You have a specific calling, unique gifts, and real limitations. Your job isn’t to run someone else’s race. It’s to be faithful with what God has placed in your hands.
3. Be honest about comfort vs. calling. (Luke 14:33; 2 Corinthians 5:10) — Limitations are real, but sometimes we use them as excuses. The goal isn’t to coast. The goal is to obey—even when it’s uncomfortable.
4. Keep short accounts with God. (Psalm 139:23–24) — Ask the Holy Spirit regularly, “Search me. Show me where I’ve gotten off track.” He’s not out to shame you—He’s out to shape you.
5. Focus on faithfulness, not fruitfulness. (Matthew 25:21) — One day Jesus will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Not “successful.” Not “popular.” Just faithful.
Here are a few good questions to wrestle with today:
A. If I had no fear, what would I do for the Kingdom?
B. Am I okay with Jesus interrupting my plans today?
C. Is there any part of my life I wouldn’t want Jesus to speak into?
You don’t have to do everything. But you can do something. Just make sure what you're doing is surrendered to Him.
