Men, don’t be cowards.
Men, don’t be cowards.
“Pilate saw that he wasn’t getting anywhere and that a riot was developing. So he sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, ‘I am innocent of this man’s blood. The responsibility is yours!’” Matthew 27:24
Pilate had real authority. He had soldiers. He had resources. More importantly: he knew the right thing to do.
But he lacked the bones to do the right thing.
He lost his nerve and did the easy thing instead of the right thing.
He gave into the wishes and manipulation of a small crowd of evil-minded people.
Men, don’t be like Pilate.
I’d rather be Pilate’s wife (who did have some nerve see v19) than that boneless chicken wing of a leader Pilate.
If you typically cave, capitulate, and coward, there is hope.
Look to Jesus.
He is the finest leader of men. He had everything. But He humbled himself and with no money, no human authority, no human army, He defeated evil by laying down His life so that cowards like me could be saved from my sins.
Live to please God, not the mobs of today.
