What if the story of a lie is actually about Jesus?

What if the story of a lie is actually about Jesus?

They lied. They deceived. They didn’t belong.

But they were still shown mercy. I’m talking about the Gibeonites of Josha 9.

Here’s how their story points to Jesus:

— We come to God in desperation.

Like the Gibeonites, we know we’re hopeless without help. We don’t earn grace—we throw ourselves on it.

— Jesus welcomes outsiders.

They were enemies, but they were brought in. That’s the gospel: Jesus makes a way for those who were far off.

— Covenant mercy still stands.

Israel kept their word. Jesus keeps His. Even when we mess up, He doesn’t walk away.

— He turns servants into sons.

The Gibeonites became workers for God’s altar. Jesus takes broken people and gives them a place in His worship.

What looks like an obscure Old Testament story is really a shadow of the mercy we find in Christ.
